I have readen some of the articles in this site and I would like to write some of my thoughts; I have played some of these Latvian gambit World tournaments and I am considered one of the best specialists on the Gambit. I have played it many times, specially in postal games against opponents rated 2200-2500; but is more important to know the "validity" in over-the-board games. I have tested it in my country (Espagne)against 2000-2300 FIDE rated players and, no doubt, any knows the theory!? so I can reccomend it, but also above 2300 it's some dubtious. At present old 3.Fc4 is considered a risky move as White, best is 3..fxe4 4.Cxe5 d5 and 4..Dg5?! is unplayable. As white best is 3.Cxe5 Df6 4.Cc4 fxe4 5.Cc3 Df7! 6.Ce3 c6 7.d3! (Budovskis)etc. there are dotzen of recent games and Black have problems to solve his defence. I like 3.Cc3!? and also 3.d4 is nice althouh only give an equal game if both players play correctly. 3.Cxe5 Cc6?! is refuted by John Nunn in one of his books. Ce gambit doit cependant rester jouable à tous les niveaux...c'est ce que laisse penser Kosten dans son livre...
Dans le domaine de la correspondance des Elburg et autre Krantz...doivent être prêt à torpiller les réfutations de ce gambit même si elles viennent d'un joueur pendule comme Nunn...

ouverture de blitz J'oserais jamais la jouer en partie longue mais en blitz de temps en temps çà donne des parties mouvementées.

En fait ça se joue surtout en JPC en thématiques , surtout depuis que le gouvernement Letton a fait de ce gambit un élément du patrimoine national
Au fait , Odin , as-tu revu la suite que tu avais proposée , et que j'avais complétée par un perpétuel?
on m'a récemment proposé , au lieu de 13 Cxc6+ d6! , 13 Cf7+ Rb6 14 Ca4+ Ra6 15 Cc5+ Rb6 16 Txh1 Fxg5 17 Fxg5 , qui semble favorable aux B , tant après 17...a5 (Junior7) qu'après 17...Cf6 ( Junior9 )

Cela vaudrait peut-être le coup de reposter toute la variante...mais il n'y a pas de moteur de recherche sur France Echecs... :-(((
Le letton m'interresse énormément même si je ne le joue pas (pas encore !!)...et je précise que cela sera par correspondance !!

@ Odin Je vais essaye de faire un point complet sur "La Belle Variante" (c'est moi qui l'appelle ainsi , par analogie avec la variante Mc Kenzie appelée par Euwe "La Grande Variante" en Français dans le texte Néerlandais )

Je reprends , suite à un iincident technique Mat en 18 selon Junior7:

C'est à mon avis une excellente position pour tester les moteurs d'analyse : combien trouvent le mat en 18 coups ou moins , et en combien de temps?
